Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis takes a top-five overall finish at the SMX World Championship Playoff 2 / Sep 15, 2023 /
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis scored a top-five finish in challenging conditions at yesterday’s SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff 2 in Joliet, Illinois. Cooper Webb also overcame adversity, ending the day seventh overall (8-7) despite not feeling 100% with an illness.
Riders were met with challenging conditions at the Chicagoland Speedway, with some rain leading up to the night program and another unique track layout. Ferrandis qualified ninth and got a great start in the first moto inside the top five. He was running a strong pace but ultimately was passed on the final lap and finished sixth. The Frenchman got another solid start in the second moto behind his teammate in seventh. He made his way to fourth on Lap 3 but ultimately crossed the line fifth for fifth overall. Ferrandis sits fifth in the 450SMX standings, trailing the points leader by 19 points, with triple points up for grabs at the final round.
Webb kept pushing despite starting the day not feeling well with an illness. He qualified 12th and then in the first moto got a decent start in eighth, where he would finish. In the second moto, the North Carolina rider got an even better start in sixth and advanced to fourth. On Lap 3, he was passed by his teammate and then did what he could to finish inside of the top 10, crossing the line seventh for seventh overall on a tough day. Webb sits sixth in the 450SMX points standings despite two challenging playoff rounds.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team heads west to Southern California for the SMX World Championship Finals at the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 23.
Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager“Today was another positive day, even if the outcomes weren`t exactly as anticipated. Cooper`s improvement is commendable, and Dylan`s strength remains consistent. This week, we`ll buckle down and aim for an even stronger performance in LA.”
Dylan Ferrandis – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing“It was a very difficult day and a tough start to the weekend. We started the Friday practice on the supercross setup, and it was way too steep. Every practice, we changed the setup and tried to be better, which was kind of a little bit difficult to manage mentally. There was a lot of frustration, but coming into the race, I just did my best and got two good starts. I was lacking pace for sure, but yeah, 6-5 for fifth overall. That’s the best I could do today, and I’m happy because in the end, I did the job and it wasn’t easy.”
Cooper Webb – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing“Today was a very rough day for me. I woke up this morning with some kind of sickness and didn’t feel well all day. I had some stomach issues, and I just felt like crap. I slept as much as I could today; it was just a really rough day. The first moto I started where I finished and didn`t ride great. In the second one, I got a little bit better start and rode a little bit better, but I didn`t have the energy and the flow at all. It’s definitely a day I’d like to forget and move on. We’ll go back to work this week, get recovered, and start supercross prep for next weekend.”
