Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb concluded a successful return with the team at the SMX World Championships Finals with third place overall and fourth in the 450SMX Championship

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb finished the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship on a high note, ending the night third overall (5-3) at the iconic LA Memorial Coliseum. In just his third race with the team aboard the YZ450F, the multi-time champion finished strong to earn fourth in the 450SMX points standings and a healthy payday at the final round in Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, Dylan Ferrandis’ night ended early after a big crash in the first moto.

Anticipation was high for the first-ever SMX World Championship Finals, which also marked the sport’s return to the historic venue where supercross was born. Webb showed strength straight away, qualifying third. From there, he got a solid top-10 start in the first moto and was ninth after the first lap. The North Carolina rider quickly made his way to fifth on Lap 2, where he would finish. In the second moto, he got a better start in fifth and claimed the final podium spot after the halfway mark. Webb continued to ride a strong pace and kept cool under pressure to finish third, ending the day third overall and advancing to fourth in the 450SMX points standings.

Ferrandis had a solid qualifying result in the challenging conditions and headed into the evening program seventh in the combined times. Unfortunately, the 2021 450MX Pro Motocross Champion and this year’s runner-up in the 450MX class had a big crash early in the opening lap of the first moto and withdrew from the race.

In the end, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing completed a successful end to the inaugural SMX World Championship Finals, securing the Yamaha brand the 2023 manufacturer title.

Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager

“It was a great finish to the season. Cooper put in a great ride and ended the year with a podium finish. It’s a good step forward in his third race back with the team, and we look to build on that momentum for next year. We’re also happy to bring Yamaha the manufacturers’ title in the inaugural SMX Finals. Our guys have been working hard on both the 450 and 250 side, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team.”

“It was great to end the last SMX round with a podium. It was good to represent the team and end the year with a good result. I had some good riding and was able to accomplish a personal goal, so that was nice. We’ll go into the off-season and keep building and working to get back on top and contend for a supercross championship.”
